Visual Art submissions are limited to five images. Each image should be submitted individually to ensure that the title and details are matched to the correct image. Dimensions are not required for photographs if the size is variable. Work by emerging artists is automatically considered for the Hedy and Michael Fawcett Prize for Visual Arts, a $500 cash prize. Any type of visual art is considered. Published pieces have included such diverse types as sculpture, ceramic, photography, drawing, quilts, jewelry, installation views, and video stills.
Please also include the following with each piece of work you submit:
1. The caption for the work, in the following format: Artist Name, Title, Medium/Materials, Dimensions, Year Completed. The caption will appear in the published book exactly as it appears here, so please ensure your caption is correct.
2. A biographical note detailing your past residency in Upstate New York.
If more than five images are submitted by one individual, Stone Canoe editors will review only the first five images received.
Note: The artist must have a first-person connection to Upstate New York, but the piece(s) submitted can be about anything at all. The work does not need to involve New York State. Examples of qualifying connections include but are not limited to: being born here, even if you moved away later; going to college at an upstate school such as SUNY Binghamton, Ithaca College, Syracuse University, etc.; working in the area currently or at some point in the past. If you are uncertain if you meet this criterion, please feel free to contact firstname.lastname@example.org for consideration of your particular situation.
Please indicate if your work has been submitted simultaneously to another publication. You may include your name on the piece.
